Recreational snowmobiling continues to be on hold for Mother Nature but with a promising winter ahead, clubs are busy in the planning stages. As part of the Barre Blizzard Blast Winter Carnival, the Barre Town Thunder Chickens will be hosting the 11th Annual Travis Mercy Memorial Skate Park Poker Run Saturday Feb. 18 with the 1st Stop @ the Maplewoods New Trail and final stop @ Suzanna's Restaurant for a hot meal… Saturday Feb. 25th @ the Wilson Industrial Park in Barre Town, Treeline Sledstyle invades Barre Town – local Expert Freestyle Snowmobilers take to the sky once again performing aerial tricks with two shows: one in the afternoon at 4 and the other under the lights at 6…freestyle sleds will be showcased before and after with rider autographs and make sure to enjoy hot food and beverages by Jockey Hollow Catering.
Adequate snow coverage is still needed in order to safely open the trails. State law reads a minimum of 4" of snow, however we really need a good couple of feet in order to build the base, cover hazards and fill in ruts. Proper snow coverage is also required to operate grooming equipment safely. Remember that once the trails do open, some areas may open later than others….if you find a gate closed or an un-groomed trail, please turn around… also remember that with extensive flood damage this year, some areas have detours, dips or other hazards. Club members are currently identifying and marking these areas, please use extra caution this winter as you travel even if you’re familiar with the trails. Remember to always thank and respect our landowners and volunteers and always ride with caution and safety in mind.
